Sponsor Responsibilities
THE PURPOSE OF THE CHRYSALIS WEEKEND IS TO CALL CHRISTIAN YOUNG PEOPLE TO SEEK A DYNAMIC FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD THROUGH CHRIST AND TO GROW TOWARDS THE UNIQUE PERSON EACH WAS CREATED TO BE SO THAT EACH CAN SERVE AS CHRIST SERVED THE WORLD.
The Chrysalis is designed for youth in Grades 10 through 12.
STANDING RULES FOR SPONSORING A CANDIDATE
1. Please give careful thought and much prayer for the Candidate you are considering before you make a commitment to sponsor him/her. Attending a Chrysalis is a serious committment, not to be done for jokes or kicks. Christ is the best friend you will ever have!
2. Applications are available at Chrysalis gatherings, from Adult Leaders and their Assistants, from the Chrysalis Board of Directors, and from the Chrysalis Registration Chairperson. You may also register online here.
3. The number of candidates for each Chrysalis weekend is limited to 35 boys and 35 girls for the Billings Chrysalis and 20 boys and 20 girls for the Powell Chrysalis. Applications will be accepted on the following basis: qualified Juniors and Seniors will be given precedence over Sophomores until four weeks before Chrysalis when the acceptance letters will start going out. Starting at that time all applications will be accepted on a first-come first-serve basis of qualifying applications. Any applications received after the Weekend is full, but before the deadline, will be put on a waiting list, and the Candidate and Sponsor notified immediately of this status, as well as notified immediately if a cancellation opens a place for them.
4. Any given Sponsor may sponsor not more than two Candidates per Chrysalis Weekend.
5. Only sponsors are to request and receive applications. If a teen expresses interest in attending a Chrysalis Weekend, but you are unable to sponsor him/her, inquire of other Butterflies and/or adult Cursillo/Walk community members and ask them to consider sponsoring that teen. Be sure to follow through and get back to the interested teen.
6. Applications and Medical Release forms must be completely filled out and the applicant and one of his/her parent's (legal guardian's) signatures must be on the forms where indicated. (Please check this before sending in the applications. If not finished correctly, they will be sent back to you.)
7. Sponsors must completely fill out the Sponsor Endorsement form.
8. When you receive a completed application for your Candidate, attend to it immediately and get it to the designated Registration/Pre-Chrysalis Chairperson as soon as possible. Do not be the cause for your Candidate's disappointment when they cannot get in for the weekend.
9. You are responsible to make sure the candidate is at the church by 9:00 am on Friday morning.
10. Cost for the weekend is $95.00 - $10.00 to be sent in with the application, and the remainder at the door when actually registering on the Friday morning of the Chrysalis Weekend. A $15 discount will be applied to applications received prior to one month prior to the Chrysalis weekend. Either plan to pay this for your Candidate at registration, or be sure that he/she is aware that it will be required at that time. Scholarships are available if needed - Contact the Registration/Pre-Chrysalis Chairperson for more information. Make sure all checks are payable to Chrysalis.
11. New applications are printed for each Chrysalis Weekend. Old application forms will not be accepted for the current Chrysalis Weekend. If your Candidate did not get in on a previous Weekend, or had to cancel, he/she is not automatically signed up for the following Chrysalis Weekend. The whole application process must be started from the beginning.
12. Your Candidate is expected to make a complete commitment to attending the Chrysalis Weekend in its entirety. Candidates will not be excused from any part of the Weekend for any pre-planned event and will not be excused from the Weekend once it has started with the exception of a dire emergency.
13. Please make sure that the Candidate and his/her parents/guardians understand that the Weekend is three days long, starting on Friday, and that they will need to be excused from school on Friday.
